Is it possible to use this plugin to create a video game database where users of my site can make a listing of their video game collection for other members to see?

I'm trying to do something like this but for WordPress:

Any user can add or delete games on their personal list that is already in the database. However none of the users will have admin access though. And I don't want other users being able to edit other people's lists.

    Is this possible with Pods?

Yes, this is possible with Pods. You could use Pods to create a custom post type called games, and create a bidirectional link between games and users. That way you could link entries in games with registered users.

Pods also let's you easily create a front-end form for creating new items. This means that your users could create new games and than you could have WordPress list all games that we related to a specific user.

That said, is your site going to be a marketplace like the example site you linked to above? If so you might want to consider using the Front-end Submissions Extension for Easy Digital Downloads or the Product Vendors extension for WooCommerce.

Thanks for your response. My site isn't going to be a marketplace. I just want my members to be able to create a collection list of the games they have so they can keep track of their collection and also show others on the internet what they have.

How do I get started in creating this?

I would recommend taking a look at our tutorials section, starting with the getting started section.

Here is a good tutorial showing how to create a books site, which you could adapt to your needs: http://www.ostraining.com/blog/wordpress/introduction-to-pods/

That article explains how to use Pods Templates and the Pods shortcode to show your content in the front-end. I would recommend using the Pods Frontier Auto Template plugin, instead of Pods Shortcodes for displaying templates.

The other thing this tutorial doesn't show, that you need is a way to link games to users. This will involve creating an extended users Pod and relationship field from users to games. That will allow you to link games to users. We have a whole series on using Pods to create a user directory that you will find useful in working with extended users Pods.

Please check out these tutorials and the other docs on our site and let me know if you have any follow up questions.

    Take care,

Based on what has been discussed thus far, do you think I should implement my video game collection database with an Advanced Content Type?

No I do not think you should use an advanced content type. Nothing you have told me has made me see any reason why you would benefit from them in any way. Using them would just make this project harder for you.
