• Hi, I’m stumped with this issue I discovered yesterday. My videos stopped being playable on posts, the video player is shown with a slash across the play arrow, and I have since realised that on Safari the same is true for audio clips as well. In the media library, all videos and audio files look like they’re still there, file sizes & play duration all as always, but when you click on them, on the viewer it’s just a black rectangle and the play duration is 0s. All image files seem to be fine.

On Chrome, the browser seems to be able to retrieve some videos (some of them completely, and play to end, some only partially, and some not at all), and audio seems fine on Chrome.

I’m pretty sure this wasn’t the case last month, have rolled back recent theme update but that didn’t fix it. Generally I don’t set my video and audio to auto-play; I’ve read in older articles that this has led to issues on certain browsers. I’m not using any plugins for video and audio; just the standard WP blocks. Link is an example article where this problem shows up.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • I suggest you to take a look at the web browser’s console. Also, your site has some serious performance issues, it took almost 30 seconds to load.

@a2hostingrj oh thanks, I didn’t know what that was for until now! Still, everything looks normal there, nothing popped up at the parts related to the videos.

Thanks for the speed heads-up; I think it’s just that I’m reaching my server allocation at the moment. Need to figure out what’s eating it up, but that’s a separate issue; i’ve noticed it for the last few weeks.

Firefox could show me the site, but Chrome didn’t. It looks like it could probably be related.

Oh, you think? Hmmm…. thanks. Wonder why there are different browser responses. I’ll post again if I figure out what it is.
