• Hello,

I am working on a website using WordPress 3.0.1 and I am having this very weird issue with registered categories not showing up in the admin panel. Something to note is that it WAS working before; now it does not (and I did not change anything).

I took a few screenshots of what I mean (please see below) but the problem arises when I try to link any post to a category. When I add a new category, it adds it to the database just fine (this is seen both in the phpmyadmin and dashboard screenshots), however, when I re-click on the Posts > Categories tab, nothing is visible. Also, I have posts on the site linked to specific categories; none of these posts actually show and it’s as if they do not exist on the website (but they do, in the database).

    phpMyAdmin: http://i52.tinypic.com/hrkb5y.png
    Posts > Categories tab: http://i52.tinypic.com/ww0qi1.png

Now, I’ve done some research as to what it could be and I’m truly clueless. I am not running any plugins, I tried re-uploading both the wp-admin and wp-includes folder from a fresh download, I reset the .htaccess file and fiddled with permalinks, etc.

    Thanks so much.

    ms

  • Just so you know, the same problem is happening to me on both 3.0.2 and 3.0.3 and I’ve deleted my whole blog, database, everything and reinstalled different versions (3.0.x) about 6 times now and the same thing happens to me every time I install it.

It’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one with this problem. Still wondering if there’s a fix for this as I haven’t figured it out yet.

Have you tried increasing the memory available to PHP?

I just tried; increasing the memory did not resolve the problem.

My guess is it has something to do with the ‘taxonomy’ files but im not sure about anything. I’ve tried heaps of different things…

PS: I uploaded an old version of wordpress to a completely different server and then updated, made a few posts, added/ delete a few categories and just mucked around with stuff to see what would happen, but the categories remained there, as they should be, but my blog that I actually want to work is still screwed…

It would be interesting to know what exactly changed as it went from working fine to not working at all; nothing was altered in any way either.

I guess we now know it’s 3.0+ related because I too did not have any problems with earlier versions (2.9 in my case).

I just reinstalled 3.0.3 and it’s working now. So idk what happened

In your case, what does ‘reinstalling’ consist of?

I want to do the same but I don’t want to wipe out all the posts and category lists I already have in the database. Mind saying what you did exactly?

Also, let us know if it randomly stops working (which is what happened to me).

the easiest way, is to just go to the upgrade menu. It gives you the option to reinstall current version

To do it manually basically consists of deleting the wp files on your server, except wp-content folder, and wp-config.php file, do NOT delete those. Then you upload new files from a fresh download

You posts and pages, etc are in your database, so they are safe. Your images, plugins, and themes are in the wp-content folder, thats why you do not delete that. And the wp-config file tells WP where your database is, thats why you don’t delete that.

You should always backup your DB before doing a reinstall (actually you should backup your DB frequently anyway)
