• I installed Media Sweep expecting it to identify and help clean unused media files, but the plugin does not actually do that.

What it really does is just list media files. It does not clearly detect which files are unused or show reliable information about where a file is being used. You still have to manually inspect each item and guess whether it’s safe to delete.

If I have to manually verify every single file myself, then this plugin provides no real value. At that point, it’s no better than browsing the uploads folder directly.

For sites with a large media library, this becomes a huge waste of time. A media cleaner should:

    • Clearly mark used vs unused files
    • Show where a file is referenced (post/page/custom field)
    • Offer safe, confident cleanup options

Unfortunately, Media Sweep does none of this. The name and description are misleading, and the plugin does not solve the actual problem it claims to address.

Not recommended if you’re looking for a real unused media cleaner.

    Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that Media Sweep didn’t meet your expectations.

We’d like to clarify an important point: Media Sweep does not only list media files. The plugin is designed to detect usage and provide detailed reference information for each file.

For every media item, you can click the info (ℹ️) icon next to the file to see:

    • Whether the file is used or unused
    • Exactly where it’s used (post, page, custom field, plugin, theme, or custom database table)
    • Detection results from core WordPress tables as well as custom/plugin tables (when Deep Scan is enabled)

This information is precisely what allows users to confidently decide whether a file is safe to remove.

If this information wasn’t visible during your scan, it usually means:

    • Deep Scan was not enabled, or
    • The scan was interrupted by server or security restrictions

We’d genuinely appreciate the opportunity to help you review your scan results and ensure the plugin is used as intended. Please feel free to open a support ticket or contact us at support@wpcreatix.com, and we’ll be happy to assist.

Thank you again for your feedback.
