Very Long Loading Times/Crashes

I recently finished installing WP 2.0.2 on a 1and1 hosting package, and the install does work, but it’s overbearingly slow. Both the backend and the homepage usually take a minute or more to load, and sometimes they just crash.

As you can see plugins and such aren’t the issue as I haven’t edited the theme etc. Has anyone run into this before?

Being that this is my first time experimenting with WordPress, and servers/hosting, I checked through the codex so I didn’t have to sound like an idiot if I didn’t have to, but I couldn’t find anything.
