Thank you for the review.
What would be your suggested way to link from the short testimonial to full?
What would make styling easier?
I think options to wrap the whole testimonial in the link to the full testimonial—which work fine, for my purposes, as they are—and to add a Read More/Read the Rest… link to the full testimonial at the end. Either would be fine; both would be great!
Oh, and styling: I found the selectors hard to locate. Either a more formalized set of selectors and corresponding help in the FAQ, or maybe a list of options in the Settings page.
Thanks for asking!
I appreciate the response. When I get back to dev I’ll look into linking to full testimonials as the next item to do.
I’m working with the “Read more” links now. I’d like to know where specifically you’d suggest putting them?
Before or after the cite?
Text align left or right?
Default text should be “Read more…” or something else?
Linking the whole overall testimonial is fine for when testimonials don’t already contain links. However, how should we let the user know that they can click for the fuller testimonial?
Oh, you’re so awesome!
I think immediately after the cite, aligned left with the text. An HTML arrow symbol or something like it might help clarify it visually—example here. If you felt up to it, give the user the option to create their own “Read More” text, but for a default, I think either “Read More” or “Full Testimonial” is fine.
I say if the testimonial contains links in the first [X] characters, strip them out and wrap the teaser text in a link to the full text.
I’m making these requests with a very limited knowledge of PHP—believe me, I’ve tried, and I’m not built for serious coding—so if any of this is a big pain, I won’t feel the least bit disappointed if it’s not in the next edition of the plugin.
Thank you for the feedback. Usability is a concern of mine and it doesn’t always seem appropriate to have the “Read more”. Hence why I’m asking around so much for feedback.
Just upgraded & donated. 🙂
Looking forward to appearing-as-appropriate links.
Thank you Adam!
Do let me know if you run into any trouble.
This would take all five stars if it came with an easy way to link the excerpt to the full testimonial.
Does Testimonials Widget get 5 stars now?
Why does the link start with the ellipsis, though? It’s visually awkward, and I think un-web-grammatical.
Ideally, I’d like to see a syntax like this:
<testimonial><ellipsis><space><Read More link>
I’m marking it five stars just for your phenomenal commitment to the plugin. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a developer so in touch with his/her users, nor working so actively. 🙂
