Support » Plugin: Braintree for WooCommerce Payment Gateway » Very Deceptive and Confusing

  • This braintree is now part of the woocommerce installation wizard. I don’t want a “payments partner”, I want paypal standard. It’s very deceptive to feature it above the normal paypal plugin.

I read the braintree website and still have no idea what it really is.

“We create tailored, seamless e-commerce experiences that maximize business opportunities for companies across the globe” – Braintree website

A lot of words yet nothing is said. Paypal standard works fine. Now I constantly have to tell people at our meetup group they have “installed the wrong paypal”.

  • PayPal owns Braintree, and they operate as a team within PayPal I believe.

From what I can tell, PayPal Standard has customers leave your site and go to PayPal’s for payment processing. In theory, PayPal by Braintree allows customers to stay on your site while you continue to use PayPal’s backend system. I say “in theory” because, based on the reviews, the plugin has issues.

Speaking of reviews, I find it interesting that, as of 11 Feb 2017, a majority of the 5-star ratings are pretty much within a few days, maybe even the same day. Then suddenly a horde of 1-star reviews shows up. This smacks of paid reviews or company employees going online and generating inflated reviews, then later, after people try the plugin, the real reviews show up. That’s just my observation.
