# very basic query about multilanguage

 * I have never used WPML and I have one doubt. During installation one is always
   asked to choose WPML or standard installation. Does this mean that one cannot
   change/revert a standard website into a multilanguage one? Or enabling WPL is
   just a matter of adding a plugin (like Polylang or WPML itself)? Or is it always
   better to make a subdomain for each language?

   know how it operates. Other community members who may have faced your issue might
   be able to help you, but your best bet is your product’s developer. We encourage

 * Thank you James but your tips don’t really answer my question. I just wanted 
   to know if a website that needs to be multilanguage needs a particular WP installation
   or just the normal one (notwithstanding if I’ll use a premium or free plugin).

 * There’s nothing built into WordPress that makes it multilingual, so I’m not sure
   what you’re referring to.
 * Adding one of these plugins is what does that.
 * Maybe you’re using a third-party installer that has a revenue sharing deal with
   WPML, but we wouldn’t have any knowledge or control over that.

 * I always use the Softacolous installer within cPanel, which offered the option
   multlingual/standard, that’s why I always wondered about the difference. However,
   I think you have answered my doubts and I thank you for that.
