# Version control

 * How can I manage version control of WordPress? I do not mean 1.2 vs. 1.5 – I 
   downloaded 1.5 from WordPress.Org on Tuesday. And then when the official announcement
   came, one of my friends downloaded it a few days later. But the files are different!
   
   I already installed it – can i just copy over all the files (I have a few plug-
   ins and themes installed). Or do I have to start from scratch? How do I know 
   when the files of the install changes? May I use subVersion or CVS to grab the
   latest files from a server? Will we get notified on bug releases or security 
   fixes?

 * It’s usually recommended that one delete and then upload, but overwriting them
   should be fine (note that problems *can* happen with overwriting in ftp). You
   may want to make a backup of your blog files first (one never knows). A small
   change of this sort normally won’t require running upgrade.php, etc.
 * If you’re having no problems, I’d suggest sticking with what you have up. The
   best reason to go with a new WordPress download is if you hit an issue which 
   the devs address.
 * An occasional tiny change has been slipped into the download unmentioned, but
   typically updates requiring bug fixes and the like will receive a N.N.N version
   renumbering (i.e. 1.5.1).
