Support » Plugin: NS Cloner - Site Copier » Version 4.1.4 bug – Options are not cloned properly

    Hi,

after the latest update the cloning is not working properly. The options table is not migrated. Posts and pages are migrated, but the plugins, themes and settings are not moved to the new site.

Downgrading to 4.1.3 solving the problem, the cloning works again.

Please check the changes! Thank you very much!

Hi @surbma, could you check the debug checkbox while cloning and then send your cloning log to support@neversettle.it? Also, are you hosting on WP Engine?

I just did the test again. Updated the plugin to the latest version and did the cloning with logging turned on.

But now, everything was working, the cloned subsite got all the options and settings.

So I don’t know, what happened, but after I downgraded and upgraded again, it is working again.

Also, are you hosting on WP Engine?

This install is not on WP Engine, it is on Closte.

Hey @surbma – I have the same issue. Not sure how we can go about downgrading safely. Is it just a matter of deleting the plugin and adding the older plugin files in its place?

OK, great, not sure why that might be but glad it self-resolved for you.

On WP Engine, I only asked because I believe a WP Engine specific caching-related update was one of the few things that changed in the last version, so wondered if the issue might be related to that. Sounds like a moot point though šŸ™‚

    Cheers!

I have this same problem. The clone is not including the theme of the source site, and sometimes the title specified for the new site. But if I “Purge All Caches” on the WPEngine screen in the Dashboard of the cloned site and then refresh, the correct theme (the one that is used by the source site) is applied, and sometimes, but not always, the correct title displays. I have to purge the caches each time I clone a site to get the theme to be applied. And then still have to go back and correct the title of the new site.

Some more information… This issue definitely seems related to the “WP Engine specific caching-related update” mentioned above. I turned off object caching at the multisite network level and NS Cloner worked as expected perfectly.

Thanks for the report and update @dptuck. Was it working for you with the previous Cloner version? The caching-related update was necessary because the way that we were previously triggering WP Engine’s cache to clear was randomly resulting in fatal errors for some users. However, it should be still clearing the cache via another method, so curious to know if it was working for you and stopped or if you’re just using it recently

Hi, Yes the previous version, 4.1.3 works fine, with Object Caching turned ON at the network level.
Note, I have another plugin that is having a caching problem with a recent version… that plugin also works fine when the object caching is turned off.

I just used it on a different install and it didn’t work. When I disabled object cache, the cloning went fine. Downgraded to 4.1.3 and it worked well even with object cache enabled.

So definitely the new version has some problem with object caching.

Hey folks – sorry for the issues around object caching there. We just released 4.1.5 with an update (among a few others) that automatically calls the WP core wp_cache_flush() function at the end of every cloning operation and should resolve this for you. (If not, please let us know of course.)

    Good morning @neversettle

    I downloaded version 4.1.5 from https://wordpress.org/plugins/ns-cloner-site-copier/
I deactivated and deleted version 4.1.4 and then installed 4.1.5 by uploading the zip file, since the WP dashboard didn’t show that there was an update available. Once I installed 4.1.5 from the zip file, it still displays as 4.1.4 in the plugins dashboard.

The interface on this new version looks different… like it’s broken.
Here’s a screen shot of what I see when I go to NS Cloner in the dashboard. I’ve blacked out the site address as I’d rather not advertise my test install
Screen shot of NS Cloner 4.1.5
Despite this broken-looking-ness, I did try to clone a site. Nothing happened when I clicked the Submit button. I checked the console in Chrome… it didn’t throw any errors.

Hey @dptuck sorry about that – we had a mistake in our deployment of the latest version. It’s now resolved so if you uninstall the plugin and reinstall one more time it should be fixed for you.

Hi @neversettle! Ah, that’s much better!
I’ve done 3 clones… everything is fine EXCEPT that the new title that I specify for the target site is not coming through on the clone; it’s retaining the source title. I’ve been able to go into the new sites and update the titles and then everything is fine.
After the first clone using 4.1.5, I tried purging all the caches via the WP Engine plugin, but that didn’t make any difference… source title is still coming over to the target site.

@dptuck could you please submit a ticket to support@neversettle.it so we can dialog further to resolve your specific issue with the title not being updated?

    (@dptuck)

@neversettle Sure. I just installed 4.1.5.1 on a different install. Same results, all cloned fine except for the target site title.
