Support » Requests and Feedback » Ver 7 Interface is step backwards

  • I’m sorry if I’m ruffeling anyones feathers as the application is free but these are my facts.

I set up blogs all the time, Hundreds!

I am very surprised how much more effort the new interface takes than the old. I use the All In One SEO and have to scroll up and down all the time. I usually spend a lot of time in the Settings menu. I’m scrolling up and down continuously. In addition I use several adsense add ins and must scroll to the bottom to get to them also.

People are moving toward wide screen monitors in the landscape format not portrait mode. I have a 24 inch monitor and it does me no good at all with the new interface. It feels like it was a step backward.

I vote you either make the menus movable or go back to the old.

I find myself in a dilemma where the 6 series was more efficient but to install the older 6 will take more time as the two hosting companies I use have upgraded to ver 7.

Rarely does a newer interface take more effort to operate but this one does.

Personally I like 2.7 interface better than any prior version, but to each their own.

You might want to head to this survey. It’s for prioritizing features to go into the next 2.8 release. You can read about it from your WordPress dashboard.

One of the items is “UI cleanup (buttons, layouts that still look like 2.6)”, so vote and let your voice (click?) be heard!

    Merry Christmas and enjoy.

Thank you I thing I will.

The major point I was making was unused screen / menu area is a waste unless you have a newbe or beginner mode that reduces the choices.

With larger and larger screens in landscape mode then there is more than enough room for menu items without forcing the screen to be scrolled.

I’ve got over 1300 domains and I’ll be developing 500 to 600 of them the rest are for sale and this move to 2.7 just cost me a lot of time to scroll down to select an item then scroll up to copy scroll down to select another item scroll up to paste. This should be very common requirement of someone setting up the general and All in one SEO plug in or many of the adsense type plugins.

Some of my domains are at AfterHoursDomains.com and 99BuckDomains.com
If I sold all my domains then the wordpress wouldn’t be an issue.

    Merry Christmas to you also!

You could also try Dean Robinson’s excellent Fluency Admin 2.0 plugin.

He concentrates all the options in the top-left and also provides keyboard shortcuts for various options. It’s a little dark for my tastes but it has been convenient.

I was sort of not liking all of the scrolling, too. Until I used the little arrows in the middle of the menu bar to shrink the menu down to icons. Now the sub-menu items fly out to the right and I don’t have to scroll to reach them at all.

I love the new interface. Clean, intuitive.
I use a lot of plugins. It got messy with the old one.

As for the scrolling part, research show that users don’t mind scrolling so much anymore.

If I had 1300 domains… and 5-600 of them where actual sites….. I would consider using some other CMS than WordPress :o)

Yeah, you need a decent multi-site CMS for that kind of setup if you don’t want to go completely insane!

I agree that version 2.7 is, for me, completly dysfunctional…I can’t find anything. Can’t get to plugins, links….nothing.

I’m not going to upgrade the rest of my sites to this version, I’ll stick with 2.6 for as long as I can.
