I’m helping a client resolve an issue with the PayPal Payments plugin in WooCommerce, particularly for subscription-based payments. While the PayPal API is properly connected and works for regular payments, it doesn’t show up as a payment option for subscriptions. We’ve discovered that the “Vault” setting within the PayPal Payments plugin is greyed out and can’t be enabled. Vaulting is confirmed to be enabled on the PayPal API side, but the setting remains inaccessible. We’ve also ensured that the “WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > Pay Later” option is disabled, yet the issue persists. After trying to create a new API key and reconnecting it, we’re still facing the same problem. Does anyone have any insights on why this might be happening?

    Hi Moshtafizur @moshtafizur01,

According to your system report and our records, Reference Transactions are not enabled for your PayPal account.

    Reference Transactions: –

This means that you cannot use PayPal Vaulting, and you will need to rely on PayPal Subscriptions mode instead. If you believe this is incorrect, please try using the “Clear Now” function at the bottom of the Connection tab. After that, log in to your PayPal account again and check your system report to see if Reference Transactions are now enabled (indicated by a checkmark).

If the option remains unchecked, we recommend reaching out directly to PayPal Merchant Support to veryfiy it.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Krystian

    Hi @inpsydekrystian,

The reference transactions are not enabled for the PayPal account. But is there any other way I can use the subscription service using your plugin? I have already set the “Mode” to “PayPal subscription” from the settings page of your plugin. But the PayPal Payment method is not showing for the subscription product.

    Hello @moshtafizur01

Yes, in this case, PayPal Subscriptions is the mode you should be using.

For subscription products to work seamlessly with PayPal, each subscription must be tied to a properly configured plan. Please follow these steps to ensure everything is set up correctly:

    1. Navigate to Products > All Products in your WooCommerce dashboard. You can either create a new product or edit an existing one. Ensure the product type is set to Simple Subscription or Variable Subscription.
    2. Make sure your subscription has a defined price and billing cycle. Keep in mind that once the product is connected to PayPal, the billing cycle settings cannot be modified.
    3. Check if the “Connect to PayPal” option is enabled and enter a Plan Name for the subscription. This is essential for linking your product to a PayPal subscription plan.
    4. Click “Publish” or “Update” to save the product settings. This will create or update the PayPal Subscription product and its associated plan.

You can find a detailed guide in our documentation.

If you’ve followed these steps and the PayPal payment method is still not showing, please let us know and provide a link to the product so we can investigate further.

    Kind Regards,

    Krystian

    Hi @inpsydekrystian ,

    Thanks for your response.

I’m using a theme called Listeo, which adds a new product type named “Listing Package Subscription” when used with the WooCommerce Subscriptions plugin. However, when I proceed to the checkout page, the PayPal payment method does not appear for this subscription type.

I also tested creating a “Simple Subscription” product, but the issue remained the same.

Would you like me to provide you with admin access so you can check the issue also? If so, please let me know where I should send the credentials.

    Looking forward to your reply!

    Hello @moshtafizur01

The fact that the PayPal button is inactive for a non-default product types is somewhat expected behavior. However, it is unusual that it does not appear for Simple Subscription.

We would like to gain access to that theme to try and reproduce this issue. For further assistance, please open a support ticket with our service desk here: Request Support

    Hi @inpsydekrystian,

Although the subscription is working for the “simple subscription” product now, I am facing the issue with the “listing package subscription” product type. When I add a “Plan name” form product edit page and then click on “Update,” the “Plan name” disappears from the input field. Could you please check the issue?

    Thanks,
