Support » Fixing WordPress » Vanilla install has REST API issues cURL error 35 WP 5.2.1

Having fought this problem on my site https://www.richardirwinmusic.com for hours without resolution I thought I would do a clean install. Only plugin is Cloudflare.

The server holds multiple domains which do not have the same problems – i.e. they have a clean health check, so these issues are installation specific and not server issues (Ubuntu 18.04.)

ERROR: [] cURL error 35: error:1408F10B:SSL routines:ssl3_get_record:wrong version number applies to both:
    * The REST API request failed due to an error.
    * The loopback request to your site failed, this means features relying on them are not currently working as expected.

    Other issues include:
    * The scheduled event, wp_privacy_delete_old_export_files, failed to run. Your site still works, but this may indicate that scheduling posts or automated updates may not work as intended.

File permissions are correctly set and .htaccess and site.conf files match for properly operating WordPress sites.

Why should these fail on a vanila install and how to I fix the problem?

    Thanks

  • I would try reinstalling. If I used an automated install I would try manual and vice versa. The CloudFlare plugin is kinda useless in my experience – I would ditch it. Re. ‘scheduled event’, I would set up a cPanel cron job as a backup to – not a replacement for – WP cron. Google will find detailed instructions.

The Cloudflare plug-in is essential for using Cloudflare SSL services. Not sure what another install would do, but can give it a go.

No cPanel on my Ubuntu 18.04 server.

Have done a clean install and the error is definitely due to Cloudflare. Need to investigate why it works on other sites.
