The <p></p>
is the standard formatting inserted by the core WordPress code, so without hacking the core of WordPress it will be there. It would be much easier to eliminate the function where the theme sends you to the next post by clicking on the photo. Otherwise, you’re probably stuck with validation errors unless someone writes a plugin to remove the standard post formatting.

Kafkaesqui, I’m confused. The theme doesn’t use the_excerpt, as far as I can see. Are you suggesting changing the_content to the_excerpt_rss?

. The solution I mention in the post linked above is the same in both cases, except if you’re outputting it raw, you’d use echo $post->post_content
