This may be a very stupid question but i am wondering why the importance of having a site pass the validation process. There are so many huge sites that do not pass this process....

That is the 64 dollar question. My reasonings are this, I aim to see web standards for design. I like the concept that everyone sees a site the same, no matter what browser, OS. So I put my money where my mouth is, and design to validate. When IE 7 is released, we'll really see if that's going to be a possible reality. Until then, it's exercise in futility.

It can be a useful tool when you are having problems. I usually run my stuff through HTML and CSS validators, but sometimes third party HTML code won't validate and I don't lose too much sleep over that as long as it doesn't break the site.

The wolverines in the newsgroup alt.html.critique, however, will hold your feet to the fire and you better not even GO THERE unless your site validates because you will incur their collective wrath.

It's kinda like religion. There are those that embrace it with a zealous ferver and then there are the rest of us. Festivus!

"The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect."
    Tim Berners-Lee

it's not like a religion - it's standard - (x)html und css are technics - like the technic in a car and if you said: oh this doesn't validate but before I get a headache ....and the design of the car is ok....

we all using the world wide web and it isn't the *wide* web if our sites aren't valide.

your next user have to read your blog with a screenreader because he is blind...
you can't know if or if not...

    valide code:
in order to save you expenses - less traffic
    more user

    kindly regards
