  • With WP5 I’m noticing a significant delay in displaying categories and tags on the post edit screen. These delays do not happen in the quick edit screens, only the full edit screen with Guttenburg. Here’s a screencast: https://cl.ly/bfdb848887c5

    This is happening across multiple sites, each with their own set of plugins. I can’t seem to find any single plugin that causes a delay, rather it cumulatively gets worse. This is not a problem that I’ve seen before WP5. One thing that definitely makes a difference is to switch to the classic editor. When I do that the categories and tags appear very fast on the post edit screen.

    I know that I’ve seen other similar symptoms reported (search: category taxonomy slow to display) with no real solutions, only some discussion about REST. This seems to be a problem area with the new editor.

    Sorry to hear you’re having issues with the plugin, we definitely want to try to help out. Just to get a handle on the situation you’re experiencing, could you provide a few more pieces of information to help us understand the issue?

    Who is your hosting provider and can you check to see if they block access to the admin-ajax.php file for any reason?

    Are you on a shared hosting plan?

    What PHP version are you using and what is the memory limit is set to?

    Is there any logging errors in the plugin’s logs tab (when it’s set to standard or debug)?

    Do you have any caching plugins or services running?

    Have you tried a fresh uninstall or reinstall?

    Thanks for the reply @kaymoore. I have multiple sites on different accounts and each site is showing this behavior to one degree more or less. I’m also getting reports from others in different forums that they see the same thing but don’t know what causes it. I’m going to give you information on one of my test sites, which is not configured as a high-end service. However, sites that I have that are configured with higher specs also exhibit the issue.

    Fresh site: No
    Log errors: I’m not sure what you mean by this question: Is there any logging errors in the plugin’s logs tab (when it’s set to standard or debug)?
