# Utilizing WP’s encoding/formatting functions

 * Hey everyone.
 * I have a blog up and running and it works well: [http://www.dp3marketing.com/blog/](http://www.dp3marketing.com/blog/)
 * I’d like to pull the latest titles from the wp-database to put on the homepage.
   I created some PHP scripts to pull the info, and it works well. You can view 
   it here:

 * I can’t figure out how to get the encoding/formatting to work properly on the
   text. Can anyone tip me on a WP function that I can run `post_excerpt`, `post_title`,
   etc, through to format it correctly?
 * Sorry… I’m very much a PHP novice.

 * Nevermind, I figured it out. I just changed the charset to UTF-8.
