 * Hi,
I’m going to download WordPress but I’m really not comfortable with using
CSS to handle the total design of a site – I use CSS when I design for some things
but I am still an old school <table> guy. Am I going to have trouble fitting
WP into a table based layout? Anybody have any samples of sites done without
CSS that I can look at? Thanks Mutt

 * This is not to start a “tables versus CSS” flame war, but I hope that you will
poke around a bit in time with CSS as you will find that it makes site design,
and more importantly, site re-design a lot easier. Plus you can take advantage
of a lot of templates created by folks throughout the WP world. [CommunityMX](http://communitymx.com)
has a lot of free and inexpensive articles and tutorials on CSS, and that’s just
one of many sites available to you.
I found CSS to be a bit of a steep learning
curve at first, but after a while the basics stuck and I was off to the races.
I have plenty still to learn, but certainly I know enough to get myself into
lots of “trouble” :). Have fun with your site.

 * If you are comfortable with PHP, it should be no problem. If you’re proficient
in either PHP or CSS, no problem. Neither, you’ve got issues.

 * CSS has changed my life.
I used to not able to create a webpage without using
Frontpage or Adobe GoLive. I didn’t get how people use table to layout the page,
so I just dragged and dropped and relied the programs to generate the code for
me. But, then again CSS changed everything. I felt natural, intuitive, the first
time I dove into it. As a matter of fact, I’m addicted to CSS lately. Everyday
I draw on a piece of paper all possibe layouts and I know I could count on CSS
to realize it to a webpage. Again, CSS is the way to go. For me, for you, for
everybody. Take my words on it.

 * I wholeheartedly agree. I used CSS before anyone was, and hell – I didn’t even
know what I was doing really. It just made more sense to me than tables. I learned
tables after I learned CSS (We’re talking back in ’97 or so). It’d probably be
worth your while to learn it. Just a matter of opinion of course.

 * CutePHP is what you are finding.
It’s style is based on tables. You can try it.

 * CSS & Web standards are going to revolutionize the web. If you don’t learn CSS,
   you’ll be lost.
ESPN.com and ABCNews.com have already converted to standards
compliant pages with CSS as their primary source of styling.

 * Use what you like, but beware of the disadvantages of [font] and HTML colors.

CSS is easier to maintain, to modify…. But who cares, use what you like! 🙂 It
you choice to follow the dark path of the force Luke,… ohhh wrong movie! 😉 $
