• Hey there, I’m happy to make a donation if this plug-in does what I think it can do, but may need a little assistance.

Currently, Wodify offers two options to integrate with “websites”.

One is simply USING API KEYS (which you reference in your documentation).

The other is creating an API connection directly with WordPress.org. Wodify tells me it will “autopost” but don’t provide any information on what it will look like or how to customize it, etc.

A few questions using the first option above which you specify in your set up:

    1. I’ve successfully created a Wodify API and your plug in “pulls” the WOD data into my test pages successfully. However, no featured image is posted even though there is one on my Wodify workout. See: https://daybreakcrossfit.com/2024/12/09/test-post/
    2. Is it at all possible to change the color of the red section headers? Is there any CSS that can change it?
    3. What is the most efficient way to autopost from Wodify to my blog page? I assume if I use your shortcodes, I still have to go into my WP, open up a new post, enter shortcode and then schedule the post. We publish the workout the night before so I assume if we schedule Wednesday’s workout to post Tuesday night, we can’t just use [wdfywod] but we have to use [wdfywod date=”WED”]? Or maybe just [wdfywod date=”+1″] in which case we can just reuse the same code on all our posts?
      • I also assume we have to ensure the WOD is published on Wodify before we publish to our blog? What would happen if we post WED workout but it isn’t yet live in Wodify? Would it eventually show up when published?
    4. Would it be any better to use Wodify’s option to autopost? Does that bypass your plug in? I’ve pasted a screenshot of both methods: https://snipboard.io/5iXEjF.jpg

My end goal is to set it and forget it. Meaning, get the WOD set up in Wodify. When it posts the night before to Wodify, it automatically posts to my blog page without any manual intervation.

    Thanks much for your help!!!

Found the CSS. No need to answer that question.

First of all: I am not affiliated with Wodify, so I can’t and won’t say much about their built-in integration features, which you mention as the second option. I understand that this posting (if it is still available offers only very limited configuration options. It works entirely independent of my plugin.

If you use this plugin you have several options to get WODs to you WordPress page:

    • Using the Short code or WOD block in any post or also a page. As you can use relative dates (today, “+1”, “MON”, etc.) you can use a static page that will change each day (if you don’t misconfigure a cache plugin)
    • If you want a daily (or whatever) automatic post, please check the settings in the lower part of the plugin’s WOD settings. This will allow you to configure automatic post creation from with your WordPress site.

Both cases allow some configuration when the WOD is actually shown and published – depending on your Wodify settings with some options of modifications (e.g. you can chose to ignore publishing limitations entirely or have your publish times relative to Wodify – maybe a few hours earlier or later)

The way most plugin users set it up is what you describe as set it up and forget it approach – many have a page that shows “todays” or “tomorrows” WOD using shortcodes or blocks in a page. I think the option of automatically have a new post for each WOD is used less frequently.

Regarding the posting of the image let me check and get back to you later. Might be an issue with the plugin.

I have released a new version of the plugin. WOD images should work again.

Seems to work. When I use the shortcode, it now has the image on the post.

Now… your earlier info is quite helpful. I realize you’re not affiliated with Wodify… and hence why I’m happy to donate to your work and support on this plug in. I think it has great potential and the more I learn from you, the more I think it will deliver exactly what I’m expecting.

I’ll limit my questions to just your plugin and the direct API key method (the first setting in my screenshot).

The static page with manually inserting the wod shortcode is probably not what I’m seeking, although that seems very straightforward. With your update, it does pull in the image, but it doesn’t set it as the featured image… is that possible?

I am more interested in creating a new post with every WOD because that triggers autoposts to our social media outlets. It keeps our feed fresh and shows our workouts and photos to a broader audience on our website and on social.

So if I go this route, I would use your WOD SETTINGS to set all my parameters. Looks straightforward, I’ll experiment with it a bit.

    A few clarifying quesitons:

    1. I assume if I put an image at the top of my “WOD” in Wodify and I select “Featured Image = YES” in WOD SETTINGS, (I currently have Post Images = No)… when it imports, will that first image be set as featured? I’m assuming yes, but want to be sure I have all parameters set the right way. Here’s my current set up (see https://snipboard.io/ptyH8I.jpg)
    2. To start experimenting, I created a WOD in Wodify, made sure it published to the Wodify app, then I assume I wait 15 minutes (per my setting) for it to create an autopost. Is that right?
    3. If your plugin makes an autopost when the workout is published to WODIFY, and then I change the workout in Wodify, for example, a day later… will the blog post update itself automatically? Or once it’s posted, is it static?

    Thanks again for your help.

    1. It’s been quite some time since I implemented this and I have not re-tested, but yes this setup should work
    2. More or less right. The WordPress Cron only triggers when someone visits your website. For a test scenario you could just reload the website after 15 minutes. In your “production” site you can either “hope” that your website will be loaded regularly by users or search engines or setup an external Cron-job or similar service that regularly loads https:/your-site-name.com/wp/wp-cron.php
Also the post is only created, if the last changed date and time of the WOD in Wodify is older than 1 hour, to avoid grabbing the workout before its finished – see next point.
    3. The created posts are static when they have been posted. If you make a change later, you could manually delete an existing post (make sure to also remove it from trash). It will then recreate the next time the job is running (with the limitation mentioned at point 2).
I might be thinking of creating the post using a short code in the future – this would allow the post to update, however would also confuse search engines, social media and so on because the update would be “silent”.

Okay… this is looking good now. The blog post autogenerated successfully at about an hour later so you’re spot on there. Only issue now is that the featured image is still not being imported/posted. Here’s the new test post: https://daybreakcrossfit.com/2024/12/10/wod-wed-dec-11/

As far as #3 (static vs dynamic), I’m totally good with it being static. In fact I’d prefer that for the reason you said about search, social, etc. If we need to tweak it, we’ll just go in and do in manually.

So I think we may just be down to getting that featured image to populate.

    Thanks again.

Hi, I checked the thing about featured images again: From my observation it works as expected: If you select to NOT use images but select “yes” for featured images, the image is not shown in the post created itself. Depending on your theme, the featured image will be shown on post overview pages like the start page or post archives. Maybe there are also themes that explicitly show the image on a single post page, too. If you want to show the image in the post, you must set “Images” to yes.

    Thread Starter rapcomm

    (@rapcomm)

Okay. Let me run some tests. Yesterday the featured image was blank. I’ll mark both option for the image as yes and will report back. Thanks.

    Thread Starter rapcomm

    (@rapcomm)

So I changed both image options to YES but I still don’t get any images/photos imported. Not in the post nor in the featured image. Here’s the post: https://daybreakcrossfit.com/2024/12/12/wod-wod-fri-12-13-2024/. And here are my configurations: https://snipboard.io/FlAPRd.jpg

I even tested with a manual post using your shortcode and while the WOD information is showing correctly, there’s no image whatsoever even though there is one on the Wodify WOD.

Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated.

In that case I need to individually look at your case. Can you please – while you still have the manual post with the shortcode on your site – use the “Download diagnostic information” button on the plugin’s config page and send me the resulting file to stefan@28a.de. Additionally a screenshot from Wodify’s WOD editor might also help.

    (@rapcomm)

Will do. I’ve sent all of that via email. Thank you much.
