Using plugin to display custom content in new theme

In follow up to the discussion regarding Zerif Lite and using a plugin to display custom content.

I just want to verify/clarify that it is the accepted solution?

We are developing a theme which we will publish here on the theme directory.

I want to make sure that if we use a plugin (approved); we are ok.

This question is mostly for WordPress.org theme reveiwers.
