Support » Fixing WordPress » Using Multisite Network with Ionos/1und1 Webhoster

  • Hi all,
    I am trying to setup a multisite network and added the following to wp-config.php (leaving out the .htaccess settings for now) according to the message in “Tools -> Network settings” settings

    define(‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true);
    define(‘SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL’, true);
    define(‘DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE’, ‘aequum.de’);
    define(‘PATH_CURRENT_SITE’, ‘/’);
    define(‘SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE’, 1);
    define(‘BLOG_ID_CURRENT_SITE’, 1);

    This led to the following error:

    “Error establishing a database connection”

    What could be the problem? (Info: I cannot create wildcard subdomains with Ionos Hosting since they do not allow special characters such as “*”)

    After having tried to repair the DB I got the following message:

    TxbLv1_posts: Table ‘db812988677.TxbLv1_posts’ doesn’t exist
    TxbLv1_comments: Table ‘db812988677.TxbLv1_comments’ doesn’t exist

    Thanks for helping out!

  • Sounds like you might have clobbered you WP-Config.

    Did you copy and then place that just…

    above the line reading /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy publishing. */:

    That’s where that must be!

    You don’t absolutely need wildcards either. But your host must allow adding on domains and/or subdomains or else the webserver must not block extra domain names.

    Those need to point to the same directory your WordPress is installed on.
