  • I have WordPress loaded into the htdocs file, but it doesn’t work without a database. I have myPHPadmin loaded also in the htdocs file, but when I select WordPress on the MAMP server it hangs-up. I think I have followed the instructions carefully for loading a database on a local server, but something is not right. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

  • Hello guymonahan,

Make sure you have created the mysql database, then proceed with wordpress installation. You can see the guide here. https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Famous_5-Minute_Install

    Ravin,

Thanks. I actually went back into my Mac and uninstalled all my MAMP installs, started again and followed the instructions for installing WordPress on a MAMP server. Everything worked almost as described, except for the database name which changed from “wordpress” to “wordpresstest” in the description. That, and an instruction that states that WordPress files should be dragged into a file named “User/USERNAME/Sites/wordpress” instead of just stating that WordPress can be dragged into “htdocs” on the MAMP server and then, you are on your way.

I really wish these descriptions were more accurate and updated. This statement that “User/USERNAME/Sites/wordpress” is an example that will get the WordPress file in the right location, is totally misleading.

@guymonahan, your wordpress will be basically in any folder that your Apache server will treat as root document, in your case is htdocs.
You can name your database anything you want, just make sure your are not overriding an existing database.
