Support » Fixing WordPress » Using .htaccess to redirect from root to blog sub directory

  • Hello,

I would like to install wordpress 3.3.2 into mydomain.com/blog and have a welcome file at mydomain.com/index.html that explains the blog is coming soon. The blog is related to an event, and I need to announce the time and date of the event even though the blog isn’t ready yet. This approach will allow my blog subdirectory to be password protected and my root directory to be open.

When the blog is ready, I’d like to add the following line to mydomain.com/.htaccess:
    DirectoryIndex /blog/index.php

This will allow users to go to mydomain.com to view the blog (instead of mydomain.com/blog). Are there any problems with this approach?

And when I log into as admin, can I go to mydomain.com/wp-login.php or should I make sure to go to mydomain.com/blog/wp-admin?

I did search the forums before posting, but most of the results I found were 3 or 4 years old.

    Thanks,
    Chuck
