Support » Plugin: Online Backup for WordPress » Using Filezilla / ftp to restore the database

  • Resolved Siobh

I’m so sorry, I’m sure I am basically asking the exact same question as everybody else, but you seem a very patient man!!
So, I am looking at my blog files on the ftp using Filezilla. I have made a copy of the files just in case! I have downloaded and unzipped the database sql but what do I do with it now? Where do I put it on the ftp, and once I’ve done that, how do I then get all the files I can see are held on OBWP onto the FTP?
    Sorry, and thank you!

  • Is it the snapshot I need to download? Will that be the files I need to migrate?

Yes the snapshot is what you need.

It will contain the database and the files as well.

Files go up via FTP. Database needs to be imported with phpMyAdmin or similiar – you should have it your web host control panel somewhere.

Just make sure the DB_ stuff is correct in the filesystem wp-config.php. That is where wordpress will look for the database so you MAY need to modify it if your going to a new host and the database host/name/user/pass isn’t the same.

Thank you so much again for your advice.
I have the snapshot files unzipped and ready to go on my PC.
Moving the files via the ftp should be straightforward. I will have to investigate what the php thing is. I am not moving hosts so hopefully the hosting people will be able to advise me on the php.
    I’ll keep you posted.
    Thank you!

OK, so it turned out I didn’t need the database, just the files, and those have all migrated via the ftp and the site seems to be up and back to normal, so YAY!
Thanks so much for your advice. Very greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards,
