# Using Diacritics?

 * I want to use ḍiācṛīticṣ (obviously they work on here) when I am writing, however
   no matter what I try, I can’t get them to show, it just comes up with a question
   mark.
 * Now I know that Segoe UI supports all of these diacritics and that I can use 
   them in Microsoft Word with no problems. However when I change the font in WordPress
   to Segoe UI and insert letters with these diacritics, it shows them as questions
   marks.
 * Any idea how I could get this working? Thanks

 * Can anyone help me? It has got to be possible, I can even type them in when I’m
   adding a post, but once I publish it, they all turn to question marks.
 * I see diacritics on so many websites so it can’t be that hard to get working,
   can someone please point me in the right direction?

 * I’ve just copied the word ḍiācṛīticṣ from your post above and pasted it into 
   a post in the text editor, saved the post and it displayed correctly on the front
   end.
 * Are you entering the text into the plain text editor?
    if you change to the default
   theme is it any different?

 * Thanks for trying that, it does seem that it is specific to my theme, which is
   rather annoying.
 * I have posted on the theme’s support forum, however if the only advice I get 
   is to hire them to fix it, is there any way I could get this working myself?

 * In the theme’s header, make sure it uses utf-8, and that your server supports
   it:

 * Thanks raskull for putting me on the right track. The theme did already use utf-
   8, however after reading your link, I had to change the standard WordPress database
   tables to use utf8_unicode_ci
 * After finding an ALTER query to change them all, diacritics is now working.

 * Though I think you could have done something with Settings > Reading > Encoding
   for pages and feeds > UTF-8 (which should have been the default setting)… but
   there you go!

 * It was already set to UTF-8.
