Using custom excerpts need a read more link at the bottom

  • I’ve tried doing this by editing the index.php on the theme
    but it doesn’t work for me. I use regulus by binary moon. I had
    heard you could make a custom field that could do it.

    Thank you for your help.

  • You’re not giving much information, but…

    Have you looked at the_excerpt tag and its syntax?
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/the_excerpt

    You need to have text in “excerpt” for it to show “custom” content and not just the first however many words of your post.

    Sorry about that:
    I changed my website to use summaries instead of showing the whole post.
    So I put a paragraph of information in the custom excerpt box but I want a link at the bottom like “Read more..”

    here is part the index.php of the regulus theme:

    // single page
    // ———–
    if( !is_single() ) {

    if ( $usePassword ) { echo “<div class=\”passwordPost\”>”; }

    if ( $pageDisplay == 0 ) {
    the_excerpt();
    } else {
    the_content();
    }

    if ( $usePassword ) { echo “</div>”; }

    } else {

    if ( $usePassword ) { echo “<div class=\”passwordPost\”>”; }
    the_content();

    if ( $usePassword ) { echo “</div>”; }
    }

    You might try “the_excerpt_reloaded” plugin, from here:

    http://guff.szub.net/the-excerpt-reloaded/

    the_excerpt('Read more...');

    Have you tried that?
