Using category allows for direct access of member only

For the pages that I made member only by selecting a category to make member only for that member level, the pages are member only on my site but if some one types the web address into a browser … They can access them.
This problem does not occur for pages I clicked the ‘require member’ box on them directly on the page. These pages are always restricted. I just don’t want to have to do this for all 200 pages in the activity category.
