Support » Fixing WordPress » Using a layout made in paint shop pro…

  • Hello,
    I looked around and the only types of questions I see being asked are questions about CSS and questions about modifying templates that already exist. I tried to find a thread about making a template for a layout made in paint shop pro…but I couldn’t.
    I have made a layout in paintshop pro and its sliced up into tables. The main table is an iframe…which is where I would like my blog posts to show up. (on the main.php page that displays in the frame when loaded) and then in the far right cell/column I would like the links, calendar…etc, to display.
    Eventually I would like to create some static pages, which I found a tutorial somewhere….so I should be able to figure that out. Hopefully.
    Anyhow, if any of you could explain to me how to make the posts show up in the iframe and the rest on the index page…that would be great. I really don’t know any php…I just know html and CSS….

  • Hey, I’ve gotten the calendar to work in the right table….but my main.php page….the one that is in the iframe…it won’t show up….I just keep getting error messages, no matter what I change. The most recent error message is a parse error message….but I don’t see a parse error…of course, then again, I don’t know php for beans, lol.

    An URL might help.
    A copy of the relevant parts of your index.php file would help even better.
    Like it is now, we can only think about reasons, not really knowing what you did. It’s pure logic to me, but not to everyone else as I see it, that someone can help you better if (s)he sees the problem.
    Have you ever tried to solve a problem on your car over the phone ? Pretty much the same here… 😉

    The reason you are not getting any help is everyone here hates tables, iframes, and basically anything that’s not CSS. It’s a religious thing.

    LOL 🙂

    Sorry, it was stupid of me not to post my url.
    I always work with iframes…I’ve just never combined php with iframes…lol.
    Sorry for the long wait before a reply…I went a vacation for a couple of days.
    Here’s the link:
    My index page just has the iframe….so should I post it? I’ll post the main page, the page that loads in the iframe…but if you want me to post the index page as well..I can.
    /* Don't remove these lines. */
    $blog = 1;
    <?php the_date('','<h2>','</h2>'); ?>
    <div class="post">
    <h3 class="storytitle" id="post-<?php the_ID(); ?>">" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link: <?php the_title(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></h3>
    <div class="meta">Filed under: <?php the_category() ?> — <?php the_author() ?> @ <?php the_time() ?> <?php edit_post_link(); ?></div>
    <div class="storycontent">
    <?php the_content(); ?>
    <div class="feedback">
    <?php link_pages('
    Pages: ', '
    ', 'number'); ?>
    <?php comments_popup_link('Comments (0)', 'Comments (1)', 'Comments (%)'); ?>
    <?php }?>

    Thankyou so much for helping me….it’s greatly appreciated.

    “Parse error: parse error in /home/meganlov/public_html/blogg/main.php on line 5”
    If the above is all the wp code you have, it may not work.
    You need everything inside “The Loop” for wp to execute properly.
    Frames / tables.
    Any reason ? That layout would be a cinch just using CSS and modding the index.php, which means no hacking around at all.

    It’s possible to even have pages load up in a desired region with css and without frames.

    JaneStar – I have mocked up your page – it lacks the main image – and to get posts to appear with information, all you do is create a post with what you want in it, date it for previously, then link to it from the menu. The ‘AboutMe’ link is in and works.
    The main section looks and behaves like a frame – it scrolls.
    Email me for the url to it ?
    You don’t have to use it of course, but doing it the WP way is always better 🙂

    Why don’t you use static pages to make the other pages you want? That would be a clearner code than iframes. I used iframes from the start and I noticed you have to get all the codes perfect so it works right. Alot of people code it wrong and mozilla will not even show the iframe.
    Try this
    that would help you greatly. and you can modify you content on the other pages with wp and not a notepad.
    Just get your index.php that look you want it with css I recomend. After that just use the about link to make the other pages.

    Podz, I have no idea what you’re saying…but I’ll email you to get the link, lol. I’d rather use frames though…simply because then i just have to make a new html page with the code that I know for each new page…
    You see…I just want all of the posts for the current month to automatically show up in the frame when the website is loaded. The archive link will be on the side under/above the “About me” link. Does that make sense? My old blog just automatically showed the posts…all of them….but of course, it was blogger…and they did all of the coding for you….lol.
