 * So I have a custom field which is an URI to an image that I want to use as a 
   background.
 * Can you direct the CSS to use the custom field as the background-image URI and
   if so, how?

 * The trick would probably be to use [inline styles](http://www.w3schools.com/CSS/css_howto.asp).
