I’ve noticed since the most recent update that when a brute attack is attempted with the username “wproot” it causes this error to show and I’m not sure if I should turn off the plugin until an update or keep having my clients site go down.

  • Hi @splendidangst,

What error is showing? Can you take a screenshot of the error and what happens to your site? Are you getting a whitescreen or are there any error log information you can provide?

It just shows a red page saying that there’s a virus. Just did it again today. I definitely can’t be using this plugin if it keeps killing my site any time someone tried logging in using ‘wproot’.

    Hi again,

I don’t think that red page error is from Wordfence.

Was this error from Google Chrome? You can check if your site is being flagged from Chrome here: https://transparencyreport.google.com/safe-browsing

Do you have any other plugins that might be causing this error? A screenshot of the error would be very helpful.

It is in Google Chrome and FireFox.

    Hey @splendidangst,

This isn’t an error from Wordfence, but rather Google. It has detected the site as malicious. I checked the site with the Google Safe Browing link that Dave shared and it doesn’t look like they’re flagging it anymore. If it does happen again, I’d suggest sharing this with your host or reach out to a professional hack repair service.

    Thanks,
