Support » Plugins » Users, Files, Roles. How Do I Get This Done?

  • I love that you can do almost anything with WordPress, but sometimes it’s tough to figure out what tools you need to solve a particular problem.

I have an idea that I need some help with. I’d like to have a (free) membership site where users can upload files (various extension types) on to their own page. This individual user page can be either public (the world can view) or private (the owner/user would have to log in to view).

I would prefer the files listed on a users page be either in icon or some sort of list format, in some sort of category layout. I would also prefer the public files be searchable by any visitor while the private files are not.

What plugins do you think could make this possible without having to know how to write php? I’m assuming I would need the following:

    1) Membership plugin
    2) File manager type plugin
    3) Role Manager plugin
    4) Advanced search plugin
    5) Taxonomy for user only categories??

I originally thought Symposium might work with the premium gallery plugin they offer for #’s 1, 2, and 3 and then Relevanssi search for #4, but the gallery layout for Symposium is geared more towards image files and I don’t know php so I couldn’t alter the appearance. I don’t even know if I would need a #5 or not.

Just curious if anyone had any thoughts on how it could be done…

    Thanks all!
