Support » Fixing WordPress » users constantly changing password on my site

  • I have over 5000 users and I receive password changed notifications from over 100 users per day. When I asked, they said “they can’t login without resetting the password every time they need to log in – no matter from which browser or computer they use.”

Can you please help me figuring this problem? I have tried downloading new WordPress sites and copying the wp-login.php file to my site and that didn’t help.

    Have you tried:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Seventeen.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

did both of those and it did not work.

I can’t replicate it on my system but many users have this issue. Can this be caused by browser or an extension of some kind?

I always login with no issues but the users keep on having this issue

Does this happen to you as well — can’t login without resetting the password every time YOU need to log in?

If not, then that may be the case.

It does not happen to me.

Are you absolutely sure that it is a technical fault and not just users mistyping their passwords? I tend to mistype my passwords ever so often because of my fast typing.

I really doubt that the problem would be on your side if no plugins cause that. It might well be that an extension of your users – for example AdBlock – is somehow interfering with the login procedure.

That suggests possibility of browser or an extension of some kind causing the issue for some of your users, unless they mistype their pass as well.

I guess, I will keep looking for answers.

Also, it very much could be they’ve saved the password in their browser, it gets really bothersome if you’ve done that once and at some point changed your password. So, also try checking if they have saved their passwords and if so they should try deleting their saved passwords for the users site 🙂
