I recently took over maintenance of wordpress site which uses google adwords to attract visitors.
The google adwords direct the user to a specific page, ie, http://myclient.com/?page=1234
This page has a specific offer on it for a product which only these users coming from adwords should see. This works great as is.
The issue is that the client doesn't want these users to ever see the real home page located at the root url http://myclient.com
They claim that the person previously in charge of the site set up this exact configuration with a different product and it worked using cookies. I have no reason not to believe them, but I can't see where in this chain of tools the cookie would have been set. I can't determine if it is supposed to come from google, from wordpress, etc.
So my issue is - if a user comes from adwords, never show them the actual home page, but instead, when they request the home page, redirect them to the adwords landing page.
Hope this makes sense.
Also - I realize I could write my own cookie to manage this, but from talking with the client, he seems to think it was a configuration setup.
