Users can’t see other user’s profile

Hey, I am having trouble with viewing user profiles. I created fake users just to test if everything works and when clicking “view profile” on a different user, it loads a page with nothing there. The users can view their own profiles and I have allowed the Contributor roles to be able to view others but still not showing up. The page that loads is /author/”displayname”.
I also created a members page with the user directory which shows each user and has the button for each to view their profile and it does the same.
Any ideas?
