Users Can’t Login Using Ultimate Member Login Form

My setup consists of WordPress ver.4.6.2-en GB. Simple LDAP Login ver. 1.6.0, and Ultimate Member ver 1.3.72.

My users are on OpenLDAP, so the plugin “Simple LDAP login” is configured to “Create WordPress user for authenticated LDAP login with appropriate roles.” This role is “Subscriber”. So if the user does not exist on WordPress, then create the user as a subscriber and login to the website.
If I try and use the login form for Ultimate Member, it cannot find the user. The error I get is “Sorry, we can’t find an account with that email address”. If I use the native WordPress login, rather than the Ultimate Member login form, the user is automatically created in the WordPress database and logs straight into the website.

Another thing I noticed was that if I logout my newly created user, and try and use the Ultimate Member login form again with the same newly created account, I get the error message “Password is incorrect. Please try again.” Obviously I know the password is correct as I have just used it in the native WordPress login. If I go to the users account settings in WordPress and change the password to what I know to be correct, the Ultimate Member login form will now log the user into the website.

Hi @timwuk,

UM is using the WP login and register standard. We don’t guarantee that UM will work with Simple LDAP Login. We suggest that you hire a freelance developer to further investigate and write a custom code to extend the functionality of the plugin.

So basically what you are saying is that if you use an external security provider like LDAP or Active Directory your plugin is not supported?

I’m happy to purchase the full plugin today, but only if it works. IF I do that will you try and support me?

Ultimate Member is FREE! The best plugin to build a community which you can transform into a web business that can provide you with a steady income stream.

Now that you know you have the horse for free, buy it a saddle. If you want someone to neatly tie LDAP into UM, then offer the author of that plugin the job (i.e. pay him).

I don’t care that the plugin is FREE @borisv. I always intended on purchasing the UM plugin if we can get it to work like it did a few months ago. I really like UM, it’s the best membership plugin I have used.

OK on further testing. It seems that the UM login just ignores how WordPress is configured. WordPress is using OpenLDAP for username and passwords. If I change the users password in LDAP, the UM login page comes back with unrecognised password. wp-login.php works fine with the new password. If I change the password in LDAP back to the original password, the UM login works again. So logic tells me that UM login page is not working in the same way as wp-login.php does. What php file do I need to look into for the login functions of UM?

I’ll buy the saddle If I know the horse will wear it.
