Support » Plugin: Helpful » Users can submit form without any input

    Great plugin, very helpful. šŸ™‚

But I have mine set so the user has to enter a comment when they select No for the question “Was this helpful?”. Without feedback, it’s impossible to know how to improve the article they voted on, which is the entire reason I use this plugin.

Despite this, I got a few negative votes that did not generate any feedback. I thought it was a bot so I left it alone.

But I was able to reproduce it today. By entering nothing but space using the spacebar, you can submit a vote without any messages. For some reason, the helpful plugin treats this as valid input but at the same time does not generate a feedback message.

Also, it would be helpful to have the option to delete specific votes to weed out bad votes like these. As of now, the only option I see is to completely reset the votes for the article that was voted on.

Thank you for your feedback. Can you send a link so I can take a look?

I can’t reproduce the bug on any of my pages.

The deleting thing is a good idea. I’ll think of something to do about that. Currently I have so much to do that updates have to wait.

    Stay healthy!

Ah now I understand… you can send feedback without content. That is correct. But Helpful does not save the feedback then.

The feedback thing came later, so it’s basically separate from Helpful itself. I’ll figure something out about that. Helpful does not check the field when sending. Either Helpful saves the feedback, or it doesn’t. It checks if the words are in the WordPress blacklist, and then trims the content. If then nothing is there, then the feedback is not saved. The vote is already saved before.

    I see, that makes sense.

I noticed that you updated the plugin specifically for this issue. I just tested it and can confirm it no longer accepts empty comment feedback.

Great work, keep it up! Hopefully you can figure out how to decrement or invalidate bad votes as well. šŸ™‚
