I have a serious security issue with my w.org username associated with my account. The name that shows on all my Tickets and on all my Themes in the Repository have my email address in the username… tradesouthwestgmailcom

I am a bit disturbed and wonder how this got through WP filters. I do not want to display my email to the public (no matter if it is surreptitious to a degree). And it is rather LONG for a screen name. I can not find anyone or anywhere to get this fixed. Any help would be great. You might as well have my phone number given to the public.

I’m very sorry but the username that you’ve chosen is not considered a security risk: you chose to make your username the same as your email address signed up 3 years ago with the email address as your username.

It is potentially spammy but that really was inflicted by yourself.

I am a bit disturbed and wonder how this got through WP filters.

    Today that would not work.

I don’t know when but after you’ve signed up, the forums stoped users from making poor choices like that by forbidding the @ sign. Some still signed up as bobatexamplecom.

I’ll ask someone who knows about it better than I but usernames can’t be changed (or deleted) here. It breaks many things when it’s tried.

I’m sorry but I’ve just asked and the short answer is there is nothing that can be done about your old account. That applies to your old forum and trac posts.

Here’s the only suggestion I have:

    1. Create a new WordPress.ORG account.
    2. Make sure the username has no connection to your email address.
    3. Make your future posts and contributions via that new account.
    4. Abandon your old account.

Yes, that sucks. I know. But that will not do anything for your old trac tickets or forum posts but it will prevent new ones from showing up.

This will also mean that your Slack account will not align with your new account.

    Thanks.
