 * I have collected a lot of “subscribers” under the user category. Do these subscribers
automatically get notified of new posts as do the “followers” on Jet pack?
 * Its not clear that they receive an automatic notification.

 * Good question. As far as I know, registered users must still opt-in or ‘follow’
to get new post notifications sent via email. Much like the box at the bottom
of this reply field. If you haven’t already, take a look at the codex regarding
   user Roles [http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities](http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities)
 * Might be fun to run a poll on your site or even publish a post asking your subscribers
   to see who responds.

 * Yes, as far as I can tell users have to “follow” to receive an email notifications
   of a new posts.
 * I guess other than running a poll or a post asking who is getting the notifications
there is no way to see who is “following”?

 * You mentioned Jetpack earlier so you might already know about going to ‘Jetpack
   > Site Stats > Subscriptions > Followers, then clicking the ‘blog’ link to get
a downloadable list of email followers.
 * I like to put myself in the user’s shoes and understand their experience, so
I often create a test user profile using a different email address. I can then
assign it different roles, log in as that user and see what capabilities and
notifications apply. Maybe give that a shot.

 * Thanks, that’s what i’ve been doing. I’m pretty sure a lot of the “user” subscribers
that registered through wordless are not automatically getting new posts. I also
see several registrations this way with different names but the same email address.
I’m assuming some kind of an attempt to get email addresses of my site.
