• I don’t understand the effect of letting readers ‘sign up’ as wp users of your site, vs a plugin which lets them sign up as users of the plugin. Isn’t it dangerous that everyone can login to wp the same way your admins do? What do people get as users?

Whatever you make them get. You can make certain stuff only available to users.

It can be dangerous. To prevent it, you can either use a plugin to display the login forum elsewhere (Sidebar Login plugin), or you can just make your site more secure using a plugin like iThemes Security. If you set up a good security, then it would be very hard for someone to hack into your website.

OK I had used iThemes Security about 2yrs ago. But my host said it used a lot of CPU, and I kept getting false lockouts of myself even tho I whitelisted my IP. I ended up spending much time trying to manage it and I’m only by myself.

For subscribers they can only read, and I need some sort of plugin to really have different access right?

Try this plugin. User Role Editor
