User Membership on Front end

I am searching for a front end user membership plugin that allows the admin to grant access to register for the site. I have a team website that I want to restrict pages from certain user groups like parents, students, and coaches. I have now spent all day downloading every plugin imaginable and still cannot find a simple solution that isn’t too bloated for my customers to understand. Help!
