• Hi,

I wondered whether anyone can give me some guidance for a rather challenging e-commerce site that I’ve been asked to set up. The site will sell clothing and customers will be required to set up an account in order to make a purchase.

Here are the requirements that I am struggling with:

1.Customers might be “members of the public” or associated with a particular school. Can you suggest a way of enabling a customer to specify a pre-assigned “school verification code” at registration, so that their user account is automatically assigned to, say, “School A Group”? Customers who do not supply a school verification code would simply be set up as regular users.

2.When a School A Group customer logs in, he/she will see the School A Category products. These will contain products that also belong to the general Clothes category, but at special (discounted) prices. Is it possible for a product to belong to multiple categories? If so, is it possible for a product to have a different price in each category? (I think the Customer Specific Pricing Extension might help with assigning different prices to a product depending on the user’s role or group, but not depending on the category that the product belongs to.)

3.And how best to ensure that the School A Group customer sees the School A Category? Should I create different menus for each customer group? I’m worried that that will not be easily scalable if we end up with many schools (and therefore many corresponding user groups and categories).

I’d be very grateful for any help, advice or pointers or for details of any similar sites that people have implemented. Thanks very much in advance!
