    Hi,

I would like to hide the username within the url of the buddypress member pages. I have this plugin activated but the username still appears. I tried inserting the [smart_user_url] shortcode on the members page but that didn’t work.

Do you have any suggestions? I’m not a developer but I may be able to make use of the get_smart_user_slug( $author_id ) and the_smart_user_slug( $author_id ) if some instructions were provided.

    Thanks for the help,

    Cathy

    Hi Cathy,

are you willing to test the upcoming version of the plugin?

The current beta for 1.3 can be downloaded from https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/smart-user-slug-hider.zip.

This version should support BuddyPress too. It works fine in my tests but I’m not really familiar with BuddyPress. Would be great if could test it.

    Hi Peter,

I was hoping you’d reply to my original post 5 months ago but upon re-reading it I just realized those shortcodes may be used to display the new slug, not hide the old slug? Please confirm if that’s the case.

Anyway, I’d be happy to test the new version. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Hi Cathy,

sorry for not answering earlier. I recently realised that I’m sometimes not getting informed per mail about new topics. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I don’t know the reason yet.

Anyway, you are right. Shortcodes only can insert content, they can’t hide anything. That’s what they are made for. This concerns all WordPress shortcodes, it’s not unique to this plugin.

I’m looking forward to your results.

    Hi Peter,

I’ve been testing the beta version for a week or so now and I’ve found only one problem. I have been using the plugin “BuddyExtender” from Pluginize to remove the “member” slug from buddypress pages, and using that together with your plugin gives a 404 error on BP pages. When the /member slug is present, the user’s username/id is hidden properly on the profile url. It looks great! There a lot of BP pages and links to profiles so I’ll let you know if any issue pops up when the username isn’t hidden as it should be.

    Regards,
    Cathy

Thanks a lot for your feedback. I’ve downloaded BuddyExtender und analyzed the code. I think I’ve now found a solution that works with /member slug as well as without it. In my tests it worked fine. I would be pleased if you’d support me with testing the latest dev build https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/smart-user-slug-hider.zip.

    Regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

Unfortunately I’m still getting the 404 page when I use BuddyExtender to remove the /members slug. Let me know if you’d like me to try something to figure out why it works for you but not for me.

    Sorry Cathy,

it seems there was a problem with the upload to the SVN repository. The ZIP file included the previous build, not the last one. I did not check that because it always worked yet. I’ve re-uploaded it again and checked the ZIP file this time. Please download it again using the same link. Thanks.

It’s now working with /members disabled! I’ll let you know if any issues pop up.

    Thanks for getting this working,
