Use text as the default value for a date field

Hello,
I am wondering if and how it would be possible to use text as the default value for a date field in pods.
I have a page with listings that may specify an expiry date or not. For those that specify an expiry date, I simply set a date in the date field. However, for a listing that doesn’t have an expiry date, I want the default value “unspecified” to be displayed.
I have tried to set this in the advanced field options, but it hasn’t been working.
Please, is there a workaround or a solution for this?
