Support » Plugin: Auto-hyperlink URLs » Use filter to 'do actions' for custom RSS feed(s)

• Hi, Scott
okay, another donation coming I have a feeling. 🙂

Q: I’m setting up some custom RSS feeds and it occurred to me it would be useful to render the rewrite for the RSS feed for the rel=nofollow and auto-hyperlink when the default RSS feed (or other RSS feed) is pulling $content

Ideally this would be useful to be able to add a function per “feed name,” s0 that we could target default WP RSS2 feed, and a custom feed called from page template called xmlcustom, but *not* add anything to the xmlclean template where we have setup a clean RSS feed with no images, links, live URLs, video iframe, etc.

maybe a function that says
if is RSS2 then use auto-hyperlink on $content

but also a function we could for for
if is xmlcustom then use auto-hyperlink on $content

example of how this is called in the /includes/feed-rss2.php template for WP:

<?php $content = get_the_content_feed('rss2'); ?>
<?php if ( strlen( $content ) > 0 ) : ?>

<?php echo $content; ?>

<?php else : ?>

<?php the_excerpt_rss(); ?>

<?php endif; ?>

Maybe there is already a function hook you have to do something like

<?php do auto-hyperlink(echo $content;); ?>

or some weirdo thing like that …

but I think you get the idea?

If I should poke you via your normal homeworld vs here, let me know.

ALSO< thank you for that other plugin to allow one ‘person/e-mail’ to have multiple author/user accounts in WP. Man that was so helpful!

Again, thanks for a decade of cool fixes and gremlin-smashers.

Chris S.

• I should mention this came up, as we were publishing a new item for client in our test platform, and they had a utm string on the anchor link, and in the RSS, for some sites which “syndicate” our content, I suddenly felt bad if somebody was pulling that in as a dofollow live link somewhere without doing their own rel=nofollow over-write locally.

Hi, actually
in our case, it occurs that a ‘pro’ paid plugin which has option to “change” the links in the database to actually have the rel=”nofollow” and target=”_blank” on all external links, including existing content and “as published” content would be a nice feature.

In our case, as newswire service we need to make “all” external links both visible URLs and anchor links *permanently* rel=nofollow and target=_blank.

SO, an advanced utility or “special” setting to not just rewrite on print, but actually change the dbase would be something I’d pay for (hint hint).

For now, I have a custom ‘clean’ RSS feed setup pulling an ACF clean post box with no anchor links, but does not solve issue of main feed or supplement feeds like categories, tags, or author page. Ugh.
