Support » Fixing WordPress » Use a template stored externally, is it possible ?

  • Resolved sabinou

I would love to be able to make my blog use a wordpress template hosted on another hosting account (with a different domain), temporarily or permanently. It would be a perfectly normal WP template, no special stuff.

Do you guys know if it is possible – and how ?
Or maybe, some php rules of wordpress will not accept to work with external files ?

The reason I’m asking is that my blog’s audience has tremendeously grown, and I’m now facing short-term issues for excessive server usage. I already have another hosting account with less annoying restrictions (except that this other one wouldn’t handle well the surge in CPU power required, sigh) on which I could place my template without problems. I just need to know if it is possible 😉

Thanks a lot if you can tell me, I’ll be grateful 🙂

It is probably not possible, no.

If you’re having a lot of server usage issues, try installing WP-Super-Cache. This eliminates a lot of CPU processing by making the site static.

Haha, i’m already using Wp Super Cache, this is thanks to it I’m not too CPU intensive 🙂 The current trouble, where I’m reaching the limits of my account, is with the bandwith usage and number of file hits on the server.

The thing is, I’m arriving very soon at 40 000 daily unique visitors, and it’s already a miracle my blog still works correctly on a 8$/month mutualized hosting account. Other alternative hosting solutions with the certitude the bandwith, number of hits and CPU power requirements would be fulfilled, would start costing much more, between 50 and 100$ I think.

Oh well, I had to try and ask !

Thank you Otto, for your kind reply 🙂
