    Dear all

I have create a page with 12 playlists displayed as galery with 9 thumbnail. The N° of Video by play list is form 10 to 100. In total there is more than 200 videos. I have publish this page and after more or less 100 View i cannot see the the playlist anymore because my daily limit of Youtube API usage is reach.

Is there any way to consume less API ?

Is i want to increase my daily limit how can i calculate the number of Calls made by your cool extension ? so i can add google to increase the limit by the good number

  • Hello,

I also have the same problem.

Regarding the quota issue, YouTube/Google has changed their quota limits in the past and that might have affected you. You should request for a quota increase using the form here:
    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd5HxReFtxATJLNfLwQiucfQwYL295Xemgc6nhFXo1vcitg3A/viewform

You might also get some benefit by using a caching plugin or activating the plugin’s own caching if you have that feature enabled.

    Hello

Thanks for your answer. I have request for more quota. Is there a way to keep a log of the calls made by your extension just to see why this is using so many calls on my page

We investigated your page. You have a couple of issues that are contributing to the fast reach to quota limit:

    1) You have a lot of galleries on that one page.
    2) More importantly and perhaps easier to fix is the page size (thumbnails/page). What did you set for your page size? If it’s high, then you could lower it so that not so many are drawing from your quota every time the page loads.

Finally, in your particular case, a general caching plugin would definitely help on the first page load for galleries

Thanks for your answer. I have a cache plugin.

What i found interesting was to have all on one page. If i have to create several pages the there is less interest. Yesterday i was obliged to clear the cache so it can explain why again i have reach the limit. I will see today if the limit is reach

So the cache plug-in does not seem to be of any help. At 9AM french time (00 pacific time) the quota is reseted and at 1PM french time i reach the limit. So unless a get a new quota (that i have asked) i will be obliged unfortunatly to find another solution.

Just to be clear, the plugin isn’t adding any extra API calls than it needs to. The core of issue is the many requests being generated at once by the several galleries with large page sizes you have on that page. Hopefully you do get the quota increase if you’re not wanting to reduce the galleries and/or page site counts.

Thanks. Yes that clear. It is linked to the way i want the page to be

I’m having the same problem but I am only loading in a single gallery on a single page but I am still getting the error “Sorry, there was a YouTube API error: Daily Limit Exceeded. The quota will be reset at midnight Pacific Time (PT). You may monitor your quota usage and adjust limits in the API Console”. On top of the fact that this is a private page so no one but me has had access to it.

There are two items being pulled into the page: A live stream block and a playlist gallery block which is pulling a playlist that only has 5 videos.

    Any ideas?

Just to keep you posted with what i have done.

I have first limit the Thumbnail to 3 in a gallery. Istead of reaching the limit after 3 hours a reach it after 7 hours.

So instead of having a page with all the play list i have create a page with no playlist with a menu that can go to 4 other pages with playlists. I have put back 9 thumbnail in the galery and i have dissalow in robot.txt the pages with the playlist because i have see that a lot of robots where crawling the main page with all the playlists

I will see tomorrow if this is finally the good solution. My request to have more quota has not been answered by google yet

Good luck. For sites that make very many requests, you can also consider the pro version which has a YouTube-specific caching feature that does some smart things to limit requests. However, you may not need to go that far if you get your quota increase.

Hello Just to let you know the result. Everything is working fine. In fact this consumption was coming from several issues. A lot of playlist was called as gallery in this page and the most important this page was embedded at the end of a lot of posts. So when a viewer or a robot was crawling my site this pages was loaded a lot of time. There was a sort of multiplication effect.

I have asked a lot pf users to test today and i will consume 5000 calls maximum

Thanks again for you help. And my viewers like the way video are displayed 😉
