My kingdom for an answer. Even an answer acknowledging that you don’t know how to fix it!!
I saw this post last month and looked.
I cant answer it, not without knowing whats inside your comments template and what plugins you are running that might be affecting that output.
Thats probably why no-one else has tried also. Might want to try adding a little more info.

Your mention of plugins helped solve the mystery. The troublesome one has been disabled and all is now well.
