Just to clarify, What I’m after is to have a page on my WP site called, for example, http://www.mydomain.com/short which we here can go to and just paste in the long url and get back a short URL with http://www.mydomain.com at the start, which we can send to the clients.

    Hi oliverm.

Yes. It is possible. But I did not incorporated the functionality in my own plugin in it’s current iteration…

However, you might want to give the plugin from http://yourls.org/ a try… It may fit your requirements. Do check it out.

    Cheers and Regards

THanks Gerald. I had a look at Yourls but it doesn’t appear to do what I need, at the wordpress plugin doesnt as it just creates short urls for posts/pages on the WP site rather than any other site.

    Hi Olverm,

Oh.. icic.. actually yourls isn’t limited to just WP.

Don’t know if this helps, there is an article by Lifehaceker on making your own shortener…
    http://lifehacker.com/5335216/make-your-own-url-shortening-service

The article also mentioned an alternative: Phurl…
I know of another called Shorty (http://get-shorty.com/)

Alternatively, if you don’t mind someone else hosting your links, Bit.ly pro (http://bit.ly/pro/) may help.. the service allows you to use your own domains as the URL.

    Cheers.

    Olverm,

I have already tried the yourls plugin and used bitly.pro. But I want to give a try with your plugin using my own URL shortner based on yourls.I have posted the same on issue-tracking system earlier. Would you please help me with this?

Another help…do you have any plan to create a plugin like prettylink plugin? I like that. But most of the features are under premium service which I can’t spend.

    Thanks!
