URL Rewrite – Rules not being followed

  • Hi,

    I am a marketer, and have outsourced the development of a wordpress blog design for a client. It sits on this sub domain
    >> http://blog.eliteediting.com.au/

    We’re having some issues with the URL Rewrites.
    – Cant do custom permalinks
    – Comments are causing a 404 when ‘post reply’ is clicked

    My developer has put this in the .htaccess file, but its still not working.

    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    We have completed wordpress blogs on sub domains with this hosting provider, twice this year and we did not have a problem.

    As mentioned im only a marketer, but if anyone has any advice or know of a solution It would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Contact your hosts and check that mod_rewrite is running. This is a server issue – not a WordPress one.

    Since your WordPress blog is on a subdomain, is it in a folder within the root? If so, you may need to adjust the RewriteBase rule.

    Currently it is

    RewriteBase /

    If your blog is in a directory named “blog” your Rule may need to look like this:

    RewriteBase /blog/

    So now it could look like:

    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /blog/
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    You could also try it without the IfModules. As they could be preventing you from seeing any errors.

    So without IfModule:

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /blog/
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
