    Hi.

This plugin has the abillity to redirect old Joomla urls to new WordPress urls. I have a question regarding this option.

Lets say my Joomla site is located at domain.com. I upload and configure my new WordPress version at domain.com/wp/. Using the plugin, I migrate all the content and set redirections to proper subpages of domain.com/wp/.

But now I have to remove old Joomla site from main directory and move my WordPress site one folder up. Will this change affect previously set redirections? Once my WordPress site is at domain.com, will entering url domain.com/old-joomla-entry redirect to domain.com/wp/new-entry or domain.com/new-entry?

I would be grateful if you could clarify this for me.

    Cheers,

It will work as expected. In your example, it will redirect to domain.com/new-entry.
The redirect feature is only available in the Premium version.

I see, thank you (I’ve already bought the premium version). One more question: does it saves redirects in .htaccess? I just wonder if I can temporarily remove the redirects after migration, so my original Joomla site works as normal until I’m ready to replace it with new WordPress version.

No, the .htaccess is not modified. The redirects are done with the WordPress redirect API. You can enable or disable the redirects easily with the checkbox «Redirect Joomla URLs».

Hm, then how can old Joomla url-s be redirected from domain.com to domain.com/wp/, if no WP headers are loaded on domain.com? Wouldn’t redirecting require those WP headers, since it doesn’t use mod_rewrite? How does Joomla know it should redirect its urls? 🙂

Joomla doesn’t know the redirects to WordPress.
They will become active when you move the WordPress site to the root folder in replacement of Joomla.
Before doing that you can test the redirects by going to domain.com/wp/joomla-url and it should redirect to domain.com/wp/wordpress-url.

Oh, I get it now. Thanks!

Will this also work if I have already done the migration (a lot of new posts since). Or do I need to make a new import? I dont want to mess with the site and re-upload everything again. I just want the redirects.

I never bought the premium, but if this works I would happily buy the premium.

Or, once its migrated. How can I do the redirect in another way?

If you already imported the data with the free version, you don’t need to reimport it from scratch with the Premium version to make the redirects work.
Just install and activate the Premium version. Tick the “Redirect URL” checkbox and save your settings.

I just bought the premium and did what you said. I doesn’t work and I probably know why. I had it deactivated, I tried activate it again but nothing happens. Please help me =/

    Hello

I transfered all my content from joomla to wordpress with this premium plugin and with Joomsef module.
The installation is in a subfolder and the redirects aren’t working now.
I have activated Keep the Joomla articles IDs before import, and only after the Redirect the Joomla URLs and in the Joomsef area the Redirect the URLs option.
Do I have to change htaccess, clear cache or can you give me a clue? Thanks.
